Let me start off by saying Fuji Sushi Upper King has some of the best sushi I've tried in my life. When I first had their spicy tuna roll, I wasn't prepared with how soft and melt in your mouth the fish would be. I appreciate how they add avocado in the roll, which pairs perfectly with the tuna. I've tried almost all of their rolls, and I've never had a dud! Trust me when I say it's all good.
I've come here multiple times either on a date night or with a group of friends. Such a perfect place to share sushi rolls with people. The prices are great! Just another reason why I feel so comfortable coming back here time after time again. It's so fun getting their boats full of different fresh fish. Definitely recommend you get if you're with a group who aren't afraid to try new foods.
For my friends who aren't huge fish eaters, there's also a bunch of other food options for example, hibachi plates, poke bowls, or bao's. There's something here for everyone. Lastly, they have rooftop seating which is perfect throughout the entire year. It's so beautiful up there with the soft breeze. Can't wait to go back! -

Initial impression is that this place is another run of the mill whatever sushi place that is not unique in anyway serving the same lame Americanized rolls when more authentic would sell better.
The ramen...
Not the worst I've had but not great.. Some initial weird after taste in the broth that doesn't belong maybe miso and ginger? And furikake was on top(doesn't go it should be white pepper on the table that I can choose to add) or nori option to order, pork was seared on grill before add to ramen(this also incorrect), noodles over cooked too soft and little mushsy, is supposed to be a onsen tamgo but they call it spy egg and it was too dry and should be little sweet which it was not. Disappointed but to be expected. Charleston could really use some authentic Japanese food and ramen...also $18 for a bowl of ramen is way over priced.. Not even in Hawaii, California or Japan does it cost that much
Also Fuji, turn the fans down guys -

The food was really good but the service was terrible. It was a nice evening so everyone who was eating was upstairs on the patio but they only had 2 waiters for about 11 tables. Makes no sense at all. We waited for 20 minutes for drinks and the waiter forgot my beer twice.
The sushi was incredible, however. Compliments to the chef. We had the Crunchy Roll, Pink Lady and Shrimp Tempura. All fantastic! We ordered dumplings as an appetizer and those were also very good.
Rolls are about $14 each which is reasonable and there was light live music that was really good and enjoyable.
Great food, awful service. 3 stars. That's a review. -

The appetizers during happy hour are a must! Found on upper kind street in this cozy modern Japanese restaurant. Walking by it is probably somewhere we normally wouldn't stop but I'm glad we found it! I was there during happy hour where drinks and appetizers were discounted . We started with the bomb shrimp (recommended by another yelper) and the Ginza which was a tempera fried rice crust with spicy tuna and it was the best thing I didn't know I loved! I'm so glad I found this dish. It's unique and flavorful. The bomb shrimp was also tasty but a bit spicier than I wanted. The cocktails were also very yummy!
We ordered sushi as well. I got a classic simple roll (California) then a more fancy signature roll (firecracker). I was pleased with the presentation and freshness of the sushi! They were plated beautifully and had great flavor. I'm picky about my sushi rice and these rolls had it perfect! Not sure I would go when it wasn't happy hour because it is a bit more expensive than I would like, but happy hour was the happy medium!! I can't wait try another location (N. Charleston) closer to me -

This sushi spot has a beautiful rooftop. This is a great spot to hangout at when in the Charleston area. The good music is flowing & so we the drinks . The rooftop has a shaded/covered section & an uncovered section with fans blowing to keep you cool on hot days. We enjoyed or should I say we devoured our spicy salmon sushi covered in tempura flakes. It was just what a pre-party meal should be.
You can't go wrong with a stop here.
